I have a media center with an 8800gts with DVI outs and a 42" plasma with a VGA in and an HDMI in. The way I have it hooked up now is that I have the dvi out to a dvi/vga converter and vga to the tv. What I'm wondering is if I would notice a large difference if I switched to a DVI to HDMI cable. I was kinda waiting on using up the HDMI input for the PS3 but it seems to look pretty damn good on component video. So I dunno. I'm new to the high def arena so basically what component to which connector.

    Summary:
    PS3: HDMI or Component
Computer: DVI to VGA or DVI to HDMI

considering I can choose only one for HDMI.

    Thanks guys

you can get a hdmi switcher and have both on hdmi.

Is it a 1080P tv? If so the native res is 1920x1080 and a single-link DVI will not support that (although VGA does) so you need to double check if you have a dual-link DVI capable card.

    If it's just 720P then you're fine.

It's 720p. So just stick with the DVI to VGA then? I mean I think it looks fine but my self-proclaimed videophile friend says that is unacceptable. I think the PS3 looks amazing on component video and he was all opposed to that too.

I think VGA is unacceptable, as well. Just too fuzzy. I would go with DVI>HDMI.

I would rather have the ps3 on hdmi, as well... so I'd get a hdmi switcher... but if you refuse to do that, I'd rather have the computer on hdmi, and the ps3 on component. It's the lesser of two evils.
