k i got two dvd writers now, eversince my old burner (toshiba SD-R5272) went gay and stop reading blanks dvdr's...now my new burner (pioneer dvr-111d) is doing the same thing...the programs i use to burn is nero, dvd shrink or ulead video studio...the problem happens during the burning process (the encoding is ok), the popup keeps asking to insert a blank disk/media etc when the disc is already blank...so i bought new media since i heard that the dvdr's could be defects (memorex, the ones that i was using at the time)...so i bought 2 more blanks but different brand, GQ brand and FUJIFILM...same thing happen...this problem happens whenever i try to burn anything (ANYTHING) on dvd'rs (backing up as data, movies, etc...can't burn nothing on dvdr)

burning cd'rs is no problem...watching movies on the two dvd drives is no problem...so im guessing it can't be the blanks that are fucking up, but it's either my comp or my burners...NEED HELP!!! :sadwavey:

Open My Computer. Right-click on the DVD drive and open its Properties. Click on the tab called "Recording". Make sure the checkbox called "Enable CD recording on this drive" is checked. Try again.

Also, consider getting rid of Nero. I've never had a good experience with it.

If you just want to throw a bunch of files on a disc, the Windows CD Burner works fine. If you want to burn a DVD movie, I'd use Roxio. Roxio has worked well for me, Nero hasn't.

Verbatim discs are very good; harder than hell to find in a store, though, unless you want the ones that look like LP records. They can be found online in a number of places.

roxio is the second worst burning product you can use... Beaten only by the Windows-integrated solution.

    you == tool.

Once again, I'm speaking from experience, and once again, you're speaking from your ass.

do you have the possibilty of updating firmware on the dvd recorder? if it was me, i would check that first, then check for new drivers (might not be essential, but it takes like 3 mins, so just do it)
is the drive specific to - or + dvdr media by any chance? most drives now handle everything though
i would take the drive out and put it in a different computer and attempt to burn something, if you have that ability to do so...it might just be windows fucking up for no good reason

no, I speak from plenty of experience with all of the above -- roxio is shit. xp cd-rw is worse than shit, and you are a tool.

It's really strange how all of these products which are shitty in your estimation have worked fine for me. Is the wrong coast permanently stuck on opposite day, or something?

Mine is doing the same thing. Maybe it's a DVD RW virus? :eek4:

After the number of DVDs mine has burned, I chunked in the trash and ordered a pair of NEC 3550As. Should solve my problem right nicely.

Nobody else in here besides you and I have expressed any opinion whatsoever regarding Nero and Roxio. Or do you interpret the lack of vitriolic insults towards you as being silent agreement? Because I suspect that is a flawed assumption.

Instead of just typing what the error message says, try reading the error message. It's telling you that you downloaded an upgrade for some other kind of drive, not the one you have.

Wolfden, Pst #6... When someone quotes me and responds "." that means that they agree with everything I say. I'm not joking... the "." or "dawt" or "dot" post means that you completely agree.

So they agree with ME... not you.

strange...cuz i actually dled both upgrades (pretty much, whatever that site had to offer) for the drive and still the same outcome (same popup) :sadwavey:

and just wanted to make sure, does F/W means firmware??

Yes, it does mean firmware; it took me a minute to figure that out, too. Why they abbreviated it, I dunno. People are hooked on acronyms these days.

Here's a whole different kind of idea: reinstall Nero and see if that helps.

If your computer is old, then upgrading wouldn't be a bad idea. If it's fairly new, you could just reformat it and reinstall everything.
