is there any way to turn a dvd into an mpeg file?

i need to show my class a few scenes from several movies during a presentation. i have a laptop and can connect it to an LCD projector to show the scenes i need, but i don't want to have to open each movie (which are on DVDs) and look for each scene as this would take too much time.

i was thinking of turning the dvd into an mpeg so that i can edit it using movie maker and isolate just the scenes i need into separate files.

is this possible? or is there a better way to turn the scenes i need into individual files?

Use DVD Decrypter in IFO mode, decrypt movie to hard drive.

change file extension from .vob to .mpeg.

    enjoy

(this really works, not messing with you)
