I just completely rebuilt my PC. Went for Windows ME with Gateway OEM, to XP Pro (no PC maker association). I now have no DVD Player Software. What's the best one?

If you have WinXP, the Windows Media Player should be able to play your DVD's.

You need an MPEG-2 decoder, nVidia' nvdvd is very popular on some of the other forums I peruse... I use WMP9 with nvdvd as the decoder

Why would WinXP not come with a MPEG-2 decoder? I've reinstalled WinXP several times, and I think I would remember if I had to reload a certain driver on my laptop to watch DVDs.

Well, my HDD burned up just after xmas and I went to watch a DVD, no codec, so I downloaded the codec pack, still no codec, installed nvdvd and it worked...
