on the digital audio output for a DVD player, do I need to use specific jack/line that handles digital signal or will a regular RCA type jack/line will do?

    It depends on which player.
    Some require an optical cable.

I use a normal RCA cable that I built myself and so far have not had any problems for my dvdplayers SPDIF interface. Supposedly the connection is supposed to be 75ohm, but quite frankly I don't think that makes any audible difference. I think special coaxial digital cables were designed to take your money more than anything else, but what else is new? If you are really concerned about looks you could get a fancy one, but odds are it isnt going to make a difference.
