Anyone know of a good free codec or dvd player for windows xp or media player?
good? not many. KLite codec pack includes one. However, I've found video to be grainy when using it.
Does VLC play DVDs under Windows?
not sure. I downloaded VLC and uninstalled it 5 minutes later. That is one shitty player, I tell you what. I don't know why people sackride it so much.
because it plays everything I have perfectly fine. Quick load time, low overhead. Easy to use UI, supports streaming as well.
You obviously never gave it a proper chance.
so it basically does everything WMP already does?
I installed it and it looked like shit. I mean it looks like something that would have fit in with Windows 95.
WMP does not natively support the amount of formats VLC does.
You do know you can have it skin to look like WMP if it bothered you that much. Or any other player out there. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/screenshots.html
I didn't mess with skins. I may try it on my linux box (for which I have no good media player)
however, my wmp plays everything I ask (thanks to the klite mega codec pack)
Why should I need to install a codec pack to play my media when VLC will do it w/o problems. There is even a portable version as well.
because the codecs fix more vids than vlc will even play, and they also address issues in embedded web browsers
