    I have a 12x TDK burner.
    The dvd's I have are 16x.

I burn certain things with Nero and certain things with DVD Decrypter.

Regardless of the speed I set both applications seem to burn at 4.1x only... What gives?

Depnding on the speed/RAM/hard drive space of the machine depends on the max write speed you can get.

I just picked up a 16X DVD burner and have only gotten it to burn at 16X once or twice.

Most burners now have a buffer underrun protection, to prevent the burner from making coasters. So the 4.1X might be the most stable speed it can burn at.

I usually reboot just before burning a DVD and don't do anything else while it's running.
