I got my laptop from gateway. I believe it came with nero at the time but for some reason I can't find the disc. Regardless, your answer wasn't what I'm looking for.

So I tried both of those programs and each time it said "drive not ready. it is possibly busy or empty." I'm using dvd+r dvd's and it is in the drive, not quite sure what to look for. It says it's fine in the device manager. This is the first time I've tried to use it. It's a DVD-RW burner so it shouldn't be an issue.

    Anyone have any ideas?

Uh, if it's a -RW then it takes -r and -rw

    That meants +r and +rw won't work.

I didn't mean -RW in a literal sense, just a dvd rw drive in general. I'll have to find out whether or not this is the case; on the side it says DVD ROM/R/RW though.

    Thanks for the tip.
