my panasonic dv cam comes with a driver for that for use through the usb port.

perhaps not all dv cams have this feature???

My DV cam does not. I am able to connect my DV cam up my computer and have my computer connected to a media server and broadcast my DV cam.

it seems unlikely that firewire could be used in a webcam-mode, since the firewire output sends crazy high amounts of digital video data to the computer.

the usb output sends a very compressed video signal, perfect for a webcam. the usb port on my camera is also used for transfering the still pictures if you take stills with the shitty still mode (if you don't have a SD card reader the usb port would be the only way to get the stills off.)

so if your camera doesn't have a usb port like mine does (I obviously have a firewire port as well) I doubt you can use it as a webcam. :hsd:

    sorry bro

webcam software such as webcamxp supports dv cams natively.. If you can capture with windv, webcamxp should work fine. just set your camera to video mode (as opposed to single-shot or tape playback mode), set some reasonable compression/resolution/framerate for your upload cap, and you're set.

There may be better software available that supports dv, but I haven't really looked.
