A relative is probably going to get deployed and wants to take along a camera.

I'd like to purchase one as a gift, but I'm afraid that sand and heat may kill the camera prematurely. Any suggestions?

Since im deployin next month i bought an olympus stylus 770 sw. Water proof, crush proof up to 220 lbs, and drop proof from 5 feet ftw! Its the most durable digital camera out there now. Itll cost you though at around 350.

I had a samsung helmet video cam. Kept it mounted on my kevlar. Took vid's, pic's, mp3 files, and some other stuff. Small and compact the camera was kept in my left sleeve pocket.
