Went to the sheriffs office, shooks the mans hand and handed him the papers, he said oo nice after looking at them, signed them and said have a nice day and I walked out.

I think getting more class 3 signoffs is gonna be easy.

Like Keesh said. Depends on your CLEO.

My area, when I called to see about getting a signoff, I was told "well, it could be a month or more"...they neglected to inform me that they have additional paperwork they want you to fill out (my coworker told me about that.)

That paperwork asks what type of security system I have in my home. What my alarm system is. What kind of safe I have. Why do I want this? What is my occupation? How long have I been there. Stuff that they simply don't need to know.

Thats for both the Sheriff or Chief of Police in my area. I used a trust.

No signoffs. No pictures. No fingerprints. Transfers so far have taken 30 days each.

He was really cool shook his hand and it was a firm grip, he could probably have crushed my hands, had hands like a weight lifter.

from what I hear, as "free" as Oregon is, getting these signed off is near impossible in my area.

Trust seems to be the way to go.

Is this for a suppressor? I remember you talking about having your AR barrel threaded.

Edit: I need to learn how to read. :o

I'm getting my rem 700 barrel threaded, the ars already are.

When it came in went down to the shop and shot it out back full auto, it was addictive.

it's worth it just to not bother with fingerprinting & photos each time.

well, went to the state police and got finger printed when the city would have charged me 15 bucks, took like 10 mins and I didn't have to pay they did it for free. Went to my cleo and took 5 mins and it was done. I just gotta get some passport photos and send it off with the check.

As far as the full auto thing. my class 3 has a bunch of full auto stuff including 1919's. We just put the flash hider on one of his fa ars and attached it and went out back.

because photos aren't free, and while fingerprinting may be 10 minutes, there is still the time it takes to drive there to get it done.

Its just easier with the trust. If you want to go the personal route, more power to you. Having gone the trust route, I'd do it even if the CLEO would let me walk in & get the form 4s signed off on right away (and fingerprinting was a simple 10 minute operation)

    to each their own.

With a trust you have to renew, this way its mine forever.

The only benefit of a trust is if
    a. cleo won't sign
    b. more than one person chip in for the price of item
    c. you want to loan it to a friend you just make him part of the company/officers/

    you're confusing trusts with LLCs/corps.

There is no renewing to a trust.

I can't loan it to a friend, but hell...if a friend was wanting to use it, we'd just both go to the range at the same time.

I think it all varies by state and the type of trust.

    Thats possible.

But with a revocable living trust I've never heard of a single state which requires any sort of renewal once it's set up.

Some states require that you register the trust with the state when it's set up, but thats a one time event in every state I'm familiar with. (my state doesn't require it.)
