i finally got my '87 Coupe and was driving it up a hill in 3rd, all of a sudden it pops out of gear and wont go back in any gears. i can put the shifter into gear but the car doesn't move. so now it's all the shop getting new motor mounts, and fixing the problem, they think its a linkage problem. it was probably caused by a bad mount, resulting in the motor shifting and pulling on the linkage.

    here are some pics :sadwavey:

Its either a linkage problem - easy fix

or you need a new tranny - you're fucked.

I highly doubt the MMounts caused the problem. Never hurts to replace them if they need replacing though....unless you take it to a shifty garage.

he just told me. i believe him, the car drives great. I actually think it's a clutch problem. maybe a release bearing or something. when i disengage the clutch, it makes a clunking noise. hopefully i'll have it back this weekend.

i stopped at the garage today, and the problem was NOT the motor mounts. The problem was a snapped front passenger axle. I should have the car back tomorrow night. I'll post pics
