I'm just wondering how strong are the A/T transmissions, I might be picking up a 1G GSX. I'm getting it for under a $1k, needs a new manifold and has a leaky steering rack.

Not very and they slow down the car in a very serious way. Keep looking.

I bought the car anyways, got it for $600. I think there is a bad joint somewhere in the driveshaft. Runs ok despite a bigass crack on the turbo. Body is straight, lights work and interior is pretty decent.

As far as it being a automatic, I'm going to do this to it. :hs:

The 1g automatics also had smaller cams and turbos than the manuals. If the turbo housing is cracked then it might be a good idea to pick up a used 14b turbo for cheap and throw it on.

www.dsmtuners.com or www.dsmtalk.com should have plenty of info.

If you are wanting to do the swap, I have an extra 1G AWD manual tranny with 78k on it.

"IPT" has some upgrades for your AT. There are a few guys running simple bolt ons/16G turbo and dipping into the 12's. Power brake, and go.

Do you also have a matching rear diff? I found out the autos have a different final drive than the 5spds.
