Rate my budget plan to purchase:

    D80 or D200 (haven't decided yet) - $600-650
    Nikon 18-55mm VR - $180
    Nikon 70-300mm G - $140
    Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Prime lens - $107
    Zenitar 16mm f/2.8 Fisheye $200

    Total $1230-$1280 (min-max)

This is at best, it will probably go up to $1330 if I don't find stock at the dealers that have these prices.

    Thoughts?

you're asking for opinion, I ask a question to make suggestions and you get pussy hurt. Good luck w/ your purchases... can't wait to see your fucking pics, and your tears when OTAP rapes them. :mamoru:

fuck the 16mm, take that money and put it towards a D90 body...then start saving up for the 10.5mm nikon fisheye.

you'll be happier in the long run.

    my suggestion -
Replace Nikon 18-55mm VR with Tamron 17-50mm
    Skip Nikon 70-300mm G
Replace Nikon 50mm f/1.8 with Nikon 85mm 1.8. (I really wish I've done this, as I don't really use my 50mm once I got teh Tamron).

What's a good lens to replace the 70-300? Remember budget

and how much is the 85mm? Because the 50mm is pretty cheap

I hope this doesn't end like the desi-pari thread. :mamoru:

I was trying to be nice, I was trying to help, asked a simple question. I can't help people that think everything is an attack on their character or plan. If he wants to be an 'everything' photographer, let him. Good luck!

I went through that stage and I'm sure most of OTAP has too. I have my gear thats good for the style of what I shoot... but I don't want to shoot everything, I want to shoot people. Once I realized my opinion and my suggestions weren't going to be good enough by the "mac user" comment, I'm in it for the hilarity, fuck what he gets. :big grin:

Chimpo, you agree w/ me or not?

    More or less.

Everyone goes through the stage of shooting everything, my point is that nobody wants to see that shit. It's all cats, rusty cars or collapsing buildings in a field and badly timed sunsets. I think we're all tired of seeing that same old crap that everyone - and I do mean EVERYONE - has posted on the internet ad nauseum.

So, take the year after you buy a camera and give yourself the time to become the next James Nachtwey. Figure out your style and what you want to shoot. Settle into that style....THEN post your photos.

Then we can have some fun critiquing the results. :o

Surprising that you aren't congratulating the thread starter for being satisfied for lesser gear because the 5D is too much camera for him.

I asked a simple question to hear what everyones opinion in the matter were to help me make decision for future purchases. You took it the completely wrong way and claimed that I criticized everyone who bought expensive equipment. Maybe you need to learn to see things from other peoples perspective rather than just your own all the time.

It would be nice if this forum was more n00b friendly not like "omg, you're a fucking idiot" everytime someone asks for advice.
