Debating between these two cameras right now. The E410 is 10MP, while the E500 is 8MP.

The E410 also has LiveView which the E500 does not even offer.

    Opinions are welcome.

Curious, what will you be shooting mostly?

And also, how come no Nikon or Canon? Just curious....

Mostly shooting group and social scenes. I do a lot of travelling with friends and we tend to take group shots infront of historical sites and whatnot. And some sports and automotive photography.

No Nikon or Canon as I do not like the weight of them. I know this may seem like a dumb reason, but I found the Olympus cameras much lighter. Makes a difference to me as I tend to carry the cameras for hours on end.

Also for the price range I am looking at the Olympus line all come with a ultrasonic dust cleaner system.

E500 is 479g, Canon Rebel XT is 540g :dunno:

of your options go for the 410, you don't seem like you genuinely want to take real pictures but rather snap shots with maybe the option of taking pictures of cars.
the 410 is the lightest, and has your "liveview" look instead of using a viewfinder.

personally i think you should just go buy a canon SD series camera, put it in your pocket, and take pictures of your friends. you don't need a dSLR for what you want.

A friend of mine has the E500...IMO it sucks its no lighter than my canon XT and the menus arent very intuitive like a canon/nikon

basing your decision purely on weight shows that you have no business buying a DSLR. Stick with a nice P&S.

Olympus DSLR's are UNBELIEVABLY shitty. I can't stress how bad they are. Liveview is ridiculous, you can even fucking prefocus before pressing the shutter, and the delay is WAY worse than a P&S.

I can't fucking believe how bad the 410 is, I would stay the hell away from Olympus.

PS> proprietary memory cards FTL also.

i've never cared for the Olympus DSLR's...they don't seem as intuitive as nikon, canon, fuji or Pentax. I'd rate it up there to be as shitty, if not shittier than the Sony Alpha.

and the dust cleaner is really a lame selling tool because mosst dust can be fixed very easily with software or cleaned very easily with a rocket blower.

Neither. Stick with Canon or Nikon. Olympus are worthless above 400 ISO.

Nikon D40x is crazy light on the hands. 10mp too.
