Was wondering what are some of the must haves for the nintendo ds? Just picked one up and I'm already getting phantom hourglass. I used to own a ds a few years ago so any new recent good games to get?

New Mario Brothers DS, Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Final Fantasy games, Henry Hatsworth, Castlevania DS series, Kirby Superstar Ultra... can't think of anything else.

Unfortunately, there is a LOT of garbage on the DS... Nintendo consoles have been cluttered with them in this gen :hs:

Good list, but I'll add Avalon Code and the other two Castlevania games to it. Order of Ecclesia is bad ass, but dawn of sorrow is cool too (continuation of two gba castlevanias). Portrait of ruin is a good one if you're in for a real challenge.

Megaman Starforce games are okay...only played less than an hour so far, it's a little too kiddy for my taste, but it has its good points if you're really into megaman.

If you like wierd Japanese games, get Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center. Also Bangai-O Spirits, from Treasure.

    Elite Beat Agents
    The World Ends With You
    Rhythm Heaven
    Fire Emblem
    Broken Sword
Hotel Dusk (one of the best written video games ever, on any platform)

The problem with the DS isn't that there is too much shovelware, it's that there are too many quality titles to keep up with.

The New Mario Bros is fun... Mario is still popular because it's platforming at its simplest/best... plus the "Mario" brand name being so well known doesn't hurt.
I could be being too harsh on the DS's game library... but I feel whenever I go to a game retailer, half of the games on the DS's rack is BS like "Let's Pilates", Brain Age ripoffs, Nintendogs and other super casual stuff. Compared to the PSP's rack, I think it's fair to say the DS has too much shovelware. Then again, I could also be ignorant of all the good titles the DS has.

    Don't forget

    Mario Kart DS
Mario and Luigi: Partners in time
    GRID
    Castlevania Series

    and maybe WarioWare :dunno:

I just got a Cyclo DS and I've been playing lots of homebrew.
If you have the DSi, I heard that Cavestory will be released soon on the online store. You should definitely get that one too.

GTA: Chinatown Wars is the game of the year so far, for me.

Alot of good games in this thread. I will 2nd The World Ends With You. Probably my favorite game so far on the DS (Phantom Hourglass a close 2nd) Mostly because it really surprised me. I was not expecting much from it but it ended up being really god damn fun and and really unique.

Really? cause every time I got to work we have a few new titles to throw into the relatively large section of discounted and worthless DS games :hsugh:

That's really an illusion at retailers. Many games never make it to store shelves, or if they do, there is one or a couple hidden behind Sponge Bob.

There are 85 DS games on Gamerankings with a rating of 80% or above.
