WEB Drupal vs. Dreamhost v.lost cause?

From what I've read these two don't like playing nice together. Drupal makes a shit ton of SQL calls and dreamhost has their DB servers on separate boxes. Is there any way I can help my site decrease it's loading time? It takes a long time to load for anonymous visitors (thanks to caching), but when I have to log in to the site, it'll take forever to load.

    any ideas?

moving hosts is not really an option, our IT department has been with dreamhost for years.

ITS at UT is really stingy with their external bandwidth :ugh: I'd look into a private server, but they have shared DB servers as well

Your company can only afford $7/year for webhosting?

Cheap webhosting limits CPU usage, and high DB calls kill that.

I'm struggling with the assumption that you aren't able to raise $250/year for a somewhat decent host.. especially if the resource is shared across many departments.

We've been doing business with them for many years and the IT head doesn't want to move hosts. I'll try emailing him again tomorrow and to see if he'll change his mind :dunno:

if you're serious about changing his mind, go into it with quotes & comparisons. Show him you're serious
