I just got one of my old Ireland neg's drum scanned by West Coast Imaging.

    fucking

This neg was scratched, abused, had watermarks, and all sorts of shit. I scanned it multiple times on nikon 4 and 8000's, and could never get it shit free...

For ~$50 door to door, I received a PERFECT scan of this image. Fantastic highlight and shadow detail, great focus, all scratches and crap removed!

Granted it's now a flat, dull film scan, but the potential is all there.

Not to mention I can now retire the neg to the filing cabinet so it doesn't endure any more damage...

I was initially unsure of whether or not it'd be worth the $$$.

    But it was.

    :rofl::bowdown:

    I deserved that...

    Here they are:

PS - These are the untouched, right out of the scanner, resized tif files... Which is why the're mostly flat. Well, the drum is flat.

It looks a little bit better but I don't see $50 worth of difference there. :hs:

The shadow and highlight detail is WORLDS apart.

The 4000 scan has areas in the high 240's, where there is almost no detail. This gets exaggerated when you post process. It also has areas in the low 20's.

    The drumscan has neither.

Although I suppose the real reason i'm so happy is because of stuff like this:

    100% crop of 4000 scan:

    thanks!

Right now, I have an old film print in my livingroom that's somewhere around 32x45... So I might redo that in digital, so I can compare the two... :noes:

Actually, here it is.. (i was working on this for a class while posting...)

My parents have one of a similar size in their house, and i've printed it for a few other things...

But after this, i'm almost getting sick of seeing it so much. So i'll probably be able to rest knowing I finally have a flawless archive digital file, and let it rest for a bit...
