My dad's "company car" for his current consulting project is a 2001 BMW X5 3.0i

It has the Sport Package, leather and about 45,000 miles on it. I was not ipressed by this thing at all. I do think it rides and handles very well, for an SUV. The power and transmission were pretty nice, for an SUV.

But the interior fit and finish were horrible. There were several loud rattles from the rear hatch area. The interior trim pieces, especially on the doors, didnt feel like they were attached to each other very well.

Defintely not on my personal list of vehicles for which I would pay $45000.

boo on a 3.0, take a ride in a 4.6 and then see what you think. company cars are always trashed, i don't care who is driving and what company they are for. Something that is not yours is always abused.

How would a 4.6 have better fit and finish?

MLs are American built minivans. The X5 is better, but not by much.

ML is horrible. Reliability ratings have been off the charts low. Only SUV worse is the Grand Cherokee.

My mom had an ML as a loaner from the dealer once. She complained how it was so "tippy" in corners. Then she complained that the X5 rode too rough. She didnt understand that with a tall, heavy vehicle it's going to be one or the other.

I thought the ride/handling compromise in the X5 was just fine.
