Today our gym implemented a new 'dropping weights' policy after someone dropped one last week and it went through the old wooden floor.

Anyway today i got asked to be more gently, or else they will ask me to leave :ugh: i was gently dropping down 70lbs dbs at the bottom of a incline bench, honestly, its hard to get them down and make no noise.

I have never heard of such a fucking nazi gym rule like this, they should just fucking fix the floor so it can hold the pressure of maybe a 4 inch drop of a db :ugh:

I wouldn't be crying about dropping db's, it would bug me though about deadlifts

I was using an incline today that sits higher than most and I had no problem setting down 70lb db's without dropping them. I even went to failure on a couple sets. Like gt said, put them back on your knees.

On a side note; there was some kid benching maybe 95lbs (bb) and slamming it back on the rack so hard you could feel it in the floor.

i just use a couple of those exercise mats to cushions the weights on the floor.

the whole floor has a mat bit on it in the weights room, its of reasonable size, i don't think you're going to damage anything, but yeah i'll get a few of those mats i use for deads in future and just guard their precious floor if it will keep them shut

i honestly couldn't believe 3 staff members came out to investigate the occurrence though

Some lady complained about me "dropping" 500lb deadlifts when I was trying to set it down relatively soft. :ugh:

On the other hand you have the 20yr olds slamming down 70lb db's after a set of half reps incline

    There's a fine line

Theres really no reason to drop a dumbell unless you just totally hit failure.

I have to agree, there is no need to drop your db unless you totally fail. Then tell them to get fucked or spot you.

Specially from an incline to your thighs.

There is a younger guy at my gym that seems to go out of his way to drop shit.

He drops all dbs no matter what he is doing. He will also go grab one of the preset curl bars, walk over to his bench, drop it from like waist high, then sit down and pick it back up.

Then I don't think he would be 'gently dropping down' the db's then after a total failure.

But yes I hate the type that come in and do 70-80lb + spotter .. and then drop it like a bomb. When there is absolutely no need too. I tend to get next to 'em do some 100's, by myself, drop it back to my thighs and quietly put back on a rack. They tend to stop it fairly quickly after that.
