One of my buddies was dropped from boot camp about a little over a year ago due to a medical injury that occured there. He wants to know what shots he got, etc and needs a copy of his medical records.

His recruiter is no longer - got kicked for embezzlement, etc. (go figure)

I advised him to go to the same recruiting office and they should be able to give him some sort of direction, even if his recruiter is no longer there.

    Any advice?

Request a copy of all records from VA? Not sure if VA would maintain records of this type since he does not meet the requirements to qualify as a veteran. :dunno: I do know that there are record keeping requirements in regards when to archive/destroy a file, and medical records should fall under the 2/3 year rule. He could start by contacting the records department of the serving hospital at the base he was discharged from.

to get any records that he wasn't smart enough to make a copy of for himself he's going to have to go through the VA and request a copy from the National Archives.

Sad to say it sounds like your buddy was stupid for not making his own copy.

true... I think all he needs to know is if he had a tetanus booster or not

In boot camp you don't get a copy of anything.
The only time you even see your record is when you put your name on it when you get there, and when you graduate.

Sounds like a shitty situation for him.

On another note, why is it even that important to him to find out about a couple shots? Nothing they give you is really that important.

according to the initial post he was a med board. I've been through a med board. If he was med boarded he had plenty of opportunities to get a copy of his records, multiple copies at that.
