What kind of software is available I could use that will take a snapshot of one drive and dump the files to another drive? I don't want to copy the partitions just the files over. Copy and paste won't work, and drive cloning software I tried wants to copy the partitions :hs:

I have raid drives I need to copy data off of and some software Ive tried wants to copy the partition scheme. The drive i am copying to is just ntfs basic, no raid/dynamic and it already has data on it so I can't alter the partition. Copy and paste would work but some files wont move without an access denied error and no matter how many times i change the permissions on folders/files still wont move them

Well why worry about the partitions then?

Just copy the whole darned thing.

    Acronis ftw.

You can change the permissions all you want but unless you take ownership of them, you won't be able to move them. Once you do that (and add full control at the same time), you'll be golden.

I tried to inherit them, replace ownership as the user i am logged in as but it still gives me an access denied.

I've ran into random batches of folders not wanting to be copied from the os drive to another drive before.
And one thing that seemed to work was copying the files to a folder on the same drive, and then copying that folder to the external drive.
