Apparently a memo was leaked between sega and sony outlining some business plans...and one of the bullets on the memo was dreamcast games on the psn.

considering sony's track record at leaked things turning out to be true, this could very well be right on target :coold:

This could be Sega's incarnation of the Dreamcast 2 :eek4::eek5:

Pretty sure psn has a bigger potential for software than the dreamcasts GD-ROMS did. They don't have to make new hard ware but can develop new dreamcast games. :eek5:

And what would be the point of developing new games for a discontinued console that's outdated and limiting?

They can remarket the dreamcast brand and make new games via psn using the HD ability of the playstation/psn all without having to make a new type of hardware to compete with the xbox, wii, or ps3. Obviously if that happened they're not going to keep making games with dreamcast level technology :bowrofl:

man some of the games on the dreamcast were the most original, fun, satisfying games to play. jet grind radio alone speaks for the level of creativity that the dreamcast just spawned in almost every game.

I'm interested in hearing what recent SEGA games you bought or enjoyed. Their latest games have been full of fail (Conduit is decent, but nothing stellar) and IMHO the best we can hope for is classic SEGA games in HD through PSN/Live/etc.

Bro I'm hoping for the revival of Sega's creativity. Since the Sammy buyout, Sega has been pretty stagnant, but already Sega might be turning around. Bringing Sonic back to his side scrolling roots in 2010 is a start. There's always that possibility that they could start cranking out shit like Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Vectorman, etc etc.

Currently, Sega hasn't made any real games. They published the conduit, madworld, and all that nonsense. I think the only first party title's they made recently were the Sonic ones.

And there's always a possibility that you could start shitting golden gumdrops. The track record SEGA has made for itself doesn't lend much to the hype surrounding the 2D Sonic. I hope they go back to their roots, but I'm not even sure an HD 2D Sonic could attract the mainstream crowd at this point. I hope I'm wrong, but I've been hyped by Sonic too many times and I refuse to give them the benefit of the doubt when they've failed to deliver eleventy billion times before.

 if you were ever hyped for any of the 3d sonics past maybe sonic adventure 2 you were really gullible.

All the sonic games that were made for the GBA in recent years were pretty high quality and reminicsent of old school sonic.

Also, it's completely possible that Sega can turn themselves around as a game developer. Like I said, the new sonic could just be a start. Sure my hopes aren't high either but the way I see it, its not like I have anything to lose. If they continue to suck, then they continue to suck. If not though, then we get back a huge part of video gaming.

Like I said, it's as possible as you shitting golden gumdrops. Why would you hype ANY game from SEGA when their games as a whole have been complete shit for the past few years? I'd love for an HD 2D Sonic to release and blow away the mainstream market, but I have a feeling it's just not going to happen. SEGA has a lot to prove and if they fail at this, they may as well just disband their company and call it a day. Hoping for the glory days of the Genesis or Dreamcast is like hoping for a harem full of virgins appears outside your front door. It would be nice if it happened, but it's a long shot to say the least.

It's easy to be pessimistic about a developer that hasn't released a good game in years. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Go back and play some of the GBA sonic games. They were side scrollers done after the sammy merger and were done pretty well. sonic just really isnt meant to be 3d and I really think that they can pull off the one in 2010 off. Maybe it won't be a rennaissance of gaming, but it will be a step in the right direction imo.

I'll believe it when I see it... last year I was hearing that PS2 games would be available via PSN but that hasn't happened yet either. If it does happen, this would be pretty awesome. Still have my original launch DC though :hs:
