  1. Dose anyone know how to make WMV compatible with Sarge Debian

Think I need to install a plug in to enable Totem movie player to play videos that end with WMV not sure though any info on how to do this will be appreciated

I received this error message after typing apt-get install w32codecs into the terminal

    apt-get install w32codecs
    Reading Package Lists... Done

you need to enable some repositories. Search google for how to do so. Alternatively, grab the .deb files manually with wget and install with:

    # dpkg -i *.deb

  5. Wow that's to complicated

I'd like to teach the Debian staff a thing or two about how to make a OS that is user friendly thanks for the replies

If you want a user-friendly distro, Debian is not a good choice. Try Ubuntu - it's like a friendly debian.

    um, ubuntu *IS* debian... lol.

and what I posted about needing to perform some repository edits and apt-get's on the w32codecs package (along with a player such as mplayer) are still required for ubuntu... So it doesn't really help him at all.

Ubuntu is a debian-based distro. It's not debian.

And yes, you still do need to add some repositories, but you can do it all through synaptic and if you search the Ubuntu site/forums for "play wmv" you'll get a page of instructions that tell you exactly how to do it.
