Don't squat all the way down!

    So a friend of mine asked me to go to the gym with her and get her started on a few things. She belongs to a gym at the "town center" thing in her city, so I was expecting cybex machines and treadmills, but figured at least she asked. The gym actually surprised me with actual free weights, but only 1 squat rack. Anyway, I start her off on really light squats (15 lb easy curl - at least she didn't need to wait for the rack :) ) And after approximately 2 reps, some dude turns around from his curls and tells her not to squat all the way down. OMG! I can't believe it happened that fast. People in my lame-ass LA Fitness usually leave me alone to destroy my knees or whatever full squats are supposed to do to you. Anyway, I advised her to ignore unsolicited advice, and she said he gave me a dirty look. lulz.

    Thanks F&N for helping me be the person advising full squats rather than the other way around :wavey:

    It was a little silly, but I wanted her to get used to having the bar on her shoulders.

    As long as you are taking proper growing powders it doesn't matter what bar you use.

    Do full squats irritate anyone else's lower back? My curves a little when I get to the very bottom position.

    They're good for hitting the glutes, I guess, but I seem to get more gains with heavier weights and parallel squats :dunno: It seems like a mix would be best.

    That's why I said not everyone should be squatting to full depth. You should stop before your butt tucks under.

    :werd: I can squat three times as much only going down two inches. That's how I see the best gains, so that is what I do.
