Gun buyback nets allies on MySpace:

The hottest new hit on MySpace.com isn’t a wacko with a manifesto, but a teetotaler Gemini who’s into firearms reduction.

As of early last night, 183 “friends” had linked their MySpace profiles and their moral support to Boston Gun Buyback, a peacekeeping police initiative that so far this month has taken 382 firearms off the city’s streets and put Target gift certificates into the hands of those ready to trade, “No questions asked.”

Authorities said they turned to MySpace “because of its enormous popularity with young people and its force in youth culture.” But to reach the inner circle, they had to fill out an online questionnaire.

Thus, Boston Guy Buyback is a single, 20-year-old female from Boston, whose heroes include slain activist Martin Luther King Jr. and Kai Leigh Harriott, a now 6-year-old Dorchester girl paralyzed by a stray bullet in 2003.

A smoker? No. Boozer? No way. Networking? Sign up here.

“Check it, the Boston Gun Buyback is a good step,” writes “Shikiboo” of Roxbury. “All of those guns . . . could have added up as lives taken instead. Big up to Mayor Menino, Target and all the people who turned in the guns.”

I thought this was kind of interesting. :dunno:

Since Boston isn't "buying back" long guns, does that mean that they don't consider "assault weapons" to be a problem anymore?

I wonder what happens if they get a rare gun at the gun buyback? Ive already heard stories of people handing in $8000 colt single action cavalry revolvers and $15000 ww2 MG42s for like $100. I mean are they donated to a museum, destroyed, or mysteriously become missing at the same time the guys running this leave at the end of the day?

    Well godd for them:bigthumb:

My dad knows a guy that sells guns and he goes to those things and stands next to the line and buys rare/expensive guns before they get inside for more then they are getting inside. I think this is what should happen more often, or whoever runs the exchange sell them to licensed dealers. This will never happen though bevause people are gay

No, no special license required to own fully automatic weapons.

    Yup.

He coulda bought an MG42 at 15k 5 or so years ago. If he paid that recently, he either gotta a hella deal or is a dealer and purchased a dealer sample.

There are already a couple pro-gun groups on there.

I'm in H&K Tactical Lounge and Handgun Association and I hardly even looked around. I'd join another pro-gun group though.
