So on the Mustang forum I'm on, someone made a thread about the upcoming handling package for the GT500, some people were asking about what the benefits were...

So I chimed in regarding all the benefits of the kit, but in my post I said that the GT500 probably understeers even worse than the GT w/ the extra weight over the nose. Well the GT500 owners didn't like that

Now my post has been accused of "spewing BS" and I've been accused of "being a fool for accepting a marketing ploy" for installing the handling kit on my own GT. :hsugh:

Additionally, many of the owners in that thread think that lowering the stock suspension 1.5" is "Fast & Furious" style :hsugh: I told them the stock versions of both cars have 4x4 wheelgap and they didn't like that either. :o

Cliffs: The mighty Shelby GT500 cannot be improved and is in fact God's chariot.

 I would ask the ones claiming the drop is rice if they really feel the GT500 can handle on par with several other cars in it's immediate price range, or if they feel huge wheel gap is desirable on a "sports" car.

I don't really like mustangs and even i like the GT500.

I just wish ford gave it a proper rear end. A live rear axle in a 500hp car? Ridiculous

Although when it came out a 500hp large car was a really special thing, but now, heaps of companies do it.

    Even Holden makes a 500hp LS7 sedan.

there's no win there. The 03/04 cobra came with IRS and everyone complained about wheel hop and swapped in solid axle. You put solid axle in a car that has even more power and people want IRS.

Still sexy as hell (regular GT500, not a supersnake):

i saw a GT mustang yesterday, it stood out like anything, was a orangeish colour.

They don't sell them in australia, and they cost a fortune to import and convert, so they look like nothing else on the road.

Even if one would set you back as much as a 335i or something to get here and legal.

Seeing that car from the side, my first reaction is the trunk is too square. It's not like you buy it to carry groceries. It should taper off more, like the old ones did.

Couldn't the wheelhop on the IRS be reduced with a lockable rear differential?

I swapped a live rear into my Termi. I've embarassed 'no IRS no care' morons in the past, and I will continue to embarrass 'no IRS no care' morons in the future. I've put down a couple C6Z06s as well.

I have no illusions that my car is nimble or agile, but knowing how to drive is what really counts.

What is the noticeable difference without the IRS?

My 2nd gen commodore didn't have IRS, and swapping to a 3rd gen commodore (the basis of the monaro/gto) with the IRS makes a noticible difference in grip and quality of ride imo. But it could just be the new generation chasis.

Wheel hop is a function of suspension compression and drivetrain deflection.

You tame it with suspension upgrades and bracing. For example, Cadillac CTS-V owners (particularly early ones) "tame" their wheel hop with a combination of different suspension mounting bushings and different rear springs.

In a long-ago thread you bashed a red bracket that Corvette guys were installing, but that's shown to help their wheel hop issue by limiting the amount of flex in the tranny/diff combo.

Louvers have been a big win since the 80s.
