Optical Out of Mac (fiber optic)

    Yamaha 7.1 Reciever

Can my G5 Mac output Dolby Digital and DTS from the optical out port. The reason I ask, is that I am using MediaCenral and playing my DVDs from the drive, my Yamaha Reciever doesnt recognize any of the Dolby Digital or DTS from the DVD, or files with dolby/dts that were ripped to the HD.

Am I doing something wrong, or is this just not possible.
What do I do to solve this issue?

    Thanks
    Scott

Great post. I'll remember that, as I'm a new mac owner, and already have a set of Z-680's. I noticed that the Macbook has an optical out, is there any chance it'll have the same results?

have you tried with a retail DVD? most DVD ripping programs in order to compress a full DVD to a DVD-R size will lose some of the extra stuff, like 5.1 encoding.

Do you have the digital output turned on in the sound preference?

Yep.. used mac the ripper, and kept all the dobly and dts.

and yes, the prefrences show digital line out.. so thats correct.

Do you know if there are any more prefrences for MediaCentral. I dont see any audio/video setttings.

    thanks
