this guy was incredible, the most decorated solider in the Vietnam War and just about of all time. he died from bladder cancer due to exposure to Agent Orange and Agent Blue in the Vietnam War. he was 74. i will be doing his funeral services at the Memorial Chapel and in Arlington National Cemetery on May 31st.

"At 14, as World War II was sputtering out, he lied about his age to join the Merchant Marine, and at 15 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. Over the next 26 years he spent fully seven in combat. He was put in for the Medal of Honor three times; the last application is currently under review at the Pentagon. He was twice awarded the Army’s second highest honor for valor, the Distinguished Service Cross, along with 10 Silver Stars and eight Bronze Stars. When asked about his many awards, he always said he was proudest of his eight Purple Hearts and his Combat Infantryman’s Badge."

They are giving Colonel Hackworth a funeral with military honors? I thought he had been blackballed by the military after he started writing his books.

His books are a must read for every person in the military in my opinion.

You don't know who Colonel Hackworth is? Yes, he was a great soldier, but he wrote some very honest books about the military and US Government after Vietnam.

You should read About Face and The Price of Honor by Col David Hackworth.

not to disrespect a fallen vet but the cnn article said otherwise

'The "V" for valor on such awards is reserved for acts "involving direct participation in combat operations," according to military code. The Navy released documents late Thursday which indicate that Boorda was not authorized to wear a combat "V" decoration.'
