I'm doing a clean install on my mac book pro. I finally got 2 gigs of ram and i just wanna start clean.

Can i back up my applications? Like, copy them into a folder, put it on my external hDD and then just copy them back?

Music, videos, documents, .... am i forgetting anything else to back up?

When you do a fresh install it gives you the option to retain your old user account.

Things like control panels for mice & other stuff won't be transfered. But Apps will.

    what else transfers?
and in that case, what do i need to back up?

The only thing it retains is you user account (which has the music/docs/movies..folders) and your applications. I've only done it once to see how it worked and it felt like the computer ran slowly. But outside of any custom preference panels it returns your computer back to how you had it before the format, down to the desktop items.

If you choose the options/customize button before confirming the install.

okay, i think I'm just going to go with a full on fresh install. Will copying certian applications work? or should i just note them down and redownload?

I just reinstall them. Usually there are updates anyway and the only one I really need that won't let me copy it back anyway is CS2.
