A 17-year-old died after trying to rob a man at gunpoint Wednesday night at a park in Terrell, police said.
100 block of Lions Club Lane

Terrell police were dispatched to Ben Gill Park in the 100 block of Lions Club Lane about 10:20 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a possible robbery and shooting, said Capt. Arley Sansom of the Terrell Police Department.

A man told police that after walking his dog at the park, a group of males robbed him at gunpoint. The man, a licensed handgun carrier, pulled his weapon, shot one of the men and shot at the vehicle the men were using, Capt. Sansom said. The shooter was not injured.

Officers found Markee Lamar Johnson, 17, on the ground with serious head injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later transferred to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, where he was pronounced dead.

A gun that police believe belonged to Mr. Johnson was recovered at the scene, Capt. Sansom said. Police said it was stolen during a separate incident in Terrell.

Police found the vehicle used by the suspected robbers in the 300 block of South Park Street, Capt. Sansom said.

    The incident remains under investigation.

it's not like the movies. Your moving defensively, threat is moving aggressively, and your trying to call shots. You have to practice and train to a certain ability to even get rounds on target that would be a threat stopper. It's not a matter of ammo, or gun. It is more of shooter ability and mindset.

What if your kid decided to rob someone? Would you want them shot and killed? Be honest. Would you be saying he deserved to die if it were YOUR kid? And don't say "My kid would never do that" This guy's parents probably said the same thing. Parents don't always know what their kids are up to, especially at age 17. Did you tell your parents everything you did when you left the house? Did your parents say if you made a mistake, you should die for it? If you can't answer these questions honestly, don't bother responding.

No quotes from grandma saying what a good boy he was and how he just loved nothing but basketball yet? :mamoru:

If my kid robbed someone and got shot - I would not blame the shooter. Honestly I would want to punch the shit outta him. But it was my kid who decided to put someone else's life at risk for a few dollars.

Just FYI - Holding someone up with a gun is not a "mistake."

If we had stronger gun laws he wouldn't have had the handgun and couldn't have held the guy up.

When I was that age, I might have hung out with some questionable (in my opinion now) people, but the worst we ever did was smoke a cigarrette or take a beer out of an older brother's fridge somewhere (never drove after doing this). I don't know anyone who was out robbing people at gunpoint.

If it were my kid, I'd be disappointed more than anything. In the end, the kid made a very bad choice and he paid what I think is the going rate for such a choice. There wasn't a mistake here, the perpetrator knew what he was doing.

If it were my kid I would probably more be blaming my self for not noticing. I mean kids arent going to tell you everything but you still can get a pretty basic idea

FWIW.....there's a lot of people who are as dead as you can get who won't be pronounced for some time or until life support is removed.

I like that this story is relatively free of anti-gun slant.
    Dallas, I guess.
