Im at school and unable to take pics, but I have my Bushy AR15 set up like this:

Its like the one up top, but is on an AR15 'M4 style' gun.

The scope is is BSA :)ugh:) 3-9x40 with illuminated reticle.

The question is, is this setup good, or should I buckle down and get an ACOG, Aimpoint, or EOtech sight? All very different, and im still debating wether or not to make the jump in the first place.

can you really get that good of a cheek weld with the scope that high?

No, thats whats irratating me. It has really good zero retention, which I atribute to the fixed carryhandle, but it sits a little too high for me. I just like the fact that you can shoot really long distances with it, and it has the illuminated reticle, but its so uncanny and cumbersome.

i had my AR setup like that at one point, and no, you can't get a good cheek weld. there's a rest you can order that clamps onto the A2 stock that'll give you the extra height.

    What about some other optics?

Also, im using this bipod and its starting to get a little :mamoru:.

But with no rails in the front, I dont have many options. Do they make a harris or equivelant bipod that can go on a stock carbine grip? What about a bayonette lug attachment?

they make a rail that you can attach to the handguard to let you attach weaver accessories. you can buy a harris weaver adapter to attach the bipod to.

that is kinda how my AR is configured now, with a cheaper scope. i only had chance to shoot 50 yards, despite the awkward aiming position it did pretty well.

If your going to be using optics, IMO you'de be better off ditching the A2 upper and swapping it out for a flattop. I want an ACOG myself just having a hardtime justifying the cost of it, thats a new gun right there.

Yeah, but in terms of stability and long term zero retention, I think the A2 fixed carry is pretty good. I have been toying with the very thing you suggested, but it just doesnt seem economical, because all the optics you an get for a flattop, you can get on a fixed. The only issue is height. Do you know where you can get a stripped flattop upper for ~100? Is it a big deal to transfer the bolt, carrier internals ect. by yourself? Im pretty mechanicaly oriented. As for the price of the ACOG, yeah I had said that exact same thing earlier, but when it comes to good optics, it doesnt get any better than an ACOG with tritium.

You can get a stripped upper for about $100, not sure what the current prices are on bushmaster or RRA sites but you can grab one off of arfcom for that ammount, as far as swapping parts over, biggest pain will be the barrel but its all stuff you can do yourself, might want to pick up a barrel wrench to make it easier, you can swap any optics around between a flat and a2 just need to get the rail that sits on top of the carry handle, I've had stuff on A2 before and didnt like the height of it. I'll probably get an ACOG eventually just a few other things I have on my list that are a higher priority.

Ok well thats probably going to be my next purchase. I have a different mount, that I can use to attach the current scope onto the flattop reciever. :bigthumb:
