well even if i buy it for that much i'm still happy with that price. on hand i've got probably 8200 to work with, and i don't have established credit yet, and no one will help co sign. so i've gotta pretty much find something close to what i've got on hand type thing.

Check craigslist as well. There are about 260 Honda's on there in the Dallas area that are priced between $5k - $8k with pictures. Narrow down your search and pic the cars that works for you. If you want a daily driver that is reliable and gets good gas mileage look at Honda's and Toyota's. My Fiance has a corrolla and it has been a fantastic car. Try to possibly find a car being sold by the original owner that has all the maint. records for it. There are a few other things to check. Also take into account the timing belt. If you buy a car with let's say 90k miles on it in 10k more miles you are going to need to replace the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and the water pump. Dealerships will charge up to $1000 for this service.

Just talk them down. I had almost the same exact car (but mine was a white 2002 4-door LX) and I absolutely loved it. Excellent on gas, comfortable, roomy, reliable, good handling, and pretty decent quality for an econo-car. It was dog slow, but most times that's the tradeoff you make for 30+ MPG.
