This is the first tattoo I have got in like 10 years and it is the largest so I am not sure what they look like when they heal. Could someone tell me if this looks normal.

    .

what have you been doing to it? the scabs and the irritation are not good signs. the redness should have been gone by day 2 - is that silver part of the tattoo or what? i'd see a doctor if i were you.

DO NOT GO TO A DOCTOR! Holy fuck people. You've soaked your tattoo either in a shower, bath or pool of some sort. Excess soaking causes heavy thick scabs like that. It's going to be sore. Apply a small amount of polysporin or neosporin on the tattoo. Don't over do it. You're going to lose a lot of the color and you're going to need touchups.

thanks, I will put neosporin on it. I have not realy soaked it the guy that did it said it was fine to take showers just not bath or hottub which I have done neather. I put lotion on it like 2 times a day and shower once a day and thats about all I have don to it. No picking or anything. I was just not sure what it should look like because this is the largest tattoo I have the others are smaller and healed quick.

i'm not suggesting you're wrong, but i'm curious why you're so adamant that the op not go to a doctor.

Doctors tend to be ignorant as fuck when it comes to tattoos and piercings.

my artist told me the same thing when he found out i went to the doctor about my tattoo, telling me he should have been the first one to look at it and tell me what to do. honestly, though, i am glad i went, since the infection cleared up almost immediately after i started taking antibiotics. i know a doctor doesn't know tattoo aftercare like an artist, but i'm not sure that an artist knows staph infection like a doctor. i'm not suggesting dude has staph, but in my case i did, and i'm glad i went to the doctor. what's teh worst that can happen? they'll give him antibiotics and it'll clear up the infection if that's what it is, and if it's not, how will it ruin the tat?

btw, dude, bacitracin is better than neosporin for long-term use: bacitracin has less of a chance of irritating your skin.:o

Doctors aren't very knowledgable about piercings or tattoos. They see a little bit of redness and they automatically assume it's an infection and you need antibiotics. Quick little story for ya...

About 5 years ago a friend argued with me about how much doctors knew about piercings. I told him to let me pierce his lip and then wanted him to go to his doctor immediately and let them know that it's bothering them. He made an appt., the day of his appt I pierced him about 30mins beforehand.

Keep in mind everything at my shop is sterile, we are/were one of the cleanest shops in our area and actually went above and beyond the standards the health department required.

Anyways, he goes in and tells the doc to look at his lip. The doctor freaks out and tells him he has a serious infection and that he needs to get on antibiotics right away, he needs bloodwork to make sure it's not spreading into his system and to take the jewellery out right away. :ugh: At that point my friend laughed, got up and came back to my shop and spent the next 2 weeks with me making fun of him. :hsd:

Just an update I whased it lastnight and put neosporin on it lastnight before bed and today there is no redness but still scabed so it is looking a little better. I will keep doing this for a few days and see what happens.

yeah it looks a bit scabby, use some A&D if its really raw otherwise just use a hypoallergenic hand cream. peeling is totally normal and unavoidable but scabbing isn't so good, you might need to get it touched up when it heals.
