Not sure if its common knowledge, but with LED its possible to have one part of the screen to have its backlit off to emphasize on the contrast, while having other parts lit up.

Does the new Macbook/MBP pro support this? I have a 2.4ghz if it matters.

Does anything support this? I have never heard of such a thing.

Samsung's LED-backlit LCD HDTV's have this feature to increase the dynamic contrast ratio.

I think you're reading too much into his post by thinking that it's not a hardware limitation.

First off, only the largest LCD HDTV's have this feature and it's a considerable jump in price from the next model down. As Apple doesn't manufacturer its own LCD panels and the fact that nobody has a 13-17" LCD TV that has locally dimmable LED backlights, it pretty much confirms that this is not a feature in the new Macbooks or Macbook Pros.

Why do you want it to be a feature so badly?

    .

I meant that there is no feature as standard. whether the display is capable of it :dunno: probably not.
