You might remember the thread I posted a few months ago about the Winchester 1300 my family got for a boat gun. Reason we got it was because it's marinized stainless steel, so the sea salt air won't fuck with the metal.

My mom's shoulders are pretty screwed up, and the recoil of the 12-gauge is way too much for her, I was wondering what options were as far as rifles. Does parkerizing protect metal from salt corrosion? I would think it would.

None of you faggots start suggesting handguns, they don't allow handguns in the Bahamas.

My mom's shoulders are full of scar tissue, she already has low-recoil shells, that's not the point, the point is, she can't handle a 12-gauge period.

I've seen some pretty good numbers on 20ga tests with #4 buck. Maybe something like that?

No one makes a 20 gauge in stainless. We need something that won't corrode, that's why I was thinking assault rifle. They have to pass military salt fog tests don't they?

Hell, with an AK we could probably tie it to the boat, throw it overboard and drag it like an anchor and it would be fine. :mamoru:

i don't see how parkerizing a rifle would help much.

a pump shotgun is pretty straightforward in terms of cycling mechanics, even with internal corrosion should still function pretty well.

a rifle, not so much. higher tolerances and not to mention a rifled bore that can corrode even easier than the outside of the gun if not chrome lined.

just get an SKS or something cheap and replaceable if you need a rifle.

and once you're in international waters you can drill the reciever, and make it full auto. Have all the fun you want and then just throw it overboard. hell it's only $320 bucks anyway.

So, this is my excuse to get an AR and no one's telling me to jump all over it?

What's happened to this forum. :mamoru:

parkerizing isn't that great and definately won't protect from salt water.

To my understanding the greatest advantage of parkerizing is that it will help hold an oil coat better than blueing. If you don't keep it oiled though it won't help.

As much as I don't like to suggest ruger, how about a mini14 in stainless?

What's the point of a boat gun? I've heard people talk about them before. Is it to ward off pirate attacks or something(self defense)? I know people get boat guns i just never heard of why people need guns on boats. I ask this question seriously and am by no means questioning people's rights or needs to have guns on thier boats.

Same as for anything else - self defense. People get attacked on boats too.

    Fuck no.

It doesnt even do shit for the rain. I had what appeared to be rust form on the exterior of my ARs after a shootout in the rain. :hsd:

But a little CLP and love made it brand new. :hsd:

Defense up around here dont really need to have one on a boat but if your sailing around the caribean or other parts of the world it's a good idea to have a weapon to protect yourself, and when you get bored you can always throw a couple plastic bottles in the water and blast away at them
