I never understood the need/want for a shorter barreled bolt action rifle.

I love mine. Fun to shoot.

  6. If most of your shooting is going to be within, say, 400 yards, you're not going to see a huge benefit from the longer barrel. (with the .308) On the other hand, the shorter barrel is going to be lighter and easier to carry around, especially if you're hunting or something where you are walking through brush.

Its sharp but I'd prefer a faster twist in either chambering and that thing is pricey. If you want a 20" 700 I'd get an LTR and put the money I saved into getting the trigger lightened and action squared.

:werd: the LTR is cheaper, and basically the same rifle. you can adjust the trigger on the LTR, you just have to take it out of the stock. That's what I did with mine.

I picked up my LTR for $765, and I don't think the MSRP is too far from that these days. A whole lot cheaper than that tactical version. Anyone able to get anything from the remingtonle.com website should be able to get the LTR. My local gun dealer had one in a week.

$681 vs. $1,434 for the XCR

you could probably buy a SPS and mod the shit out of it and still not hit $1.4k

It's "tactical" and the shit doesn't come in black? WTF am I paying so much money for?

You would have to be high to pay $1400 for a LTR in a *meh* stock, with a paintjob.

See, this guy works in a pawn shop. Who do you think his clientele are?

I have the 700 SPS tactical... I love the gun. The stock leaves a lot to be desired though. It is supposedly free float but not when using a bipod. I had to remove about 1/8" of material from the front of the stock to make it so. It only has one sling stud as well. Some people like the sticky rubber feel of the stock but I could do without it. Also I'd prefer a more vertical wrist as well. The front of the stock flexes a good bit also.

Like was said though. I picked my SPS up for $550. $850 buys you a lot of goodies. Hell, you could buy a nice bell & carson stock, a better barrel, a bipod, and maybe a base/rings with the leftover cash. I'd rather do that then buy the XCR. I'm not big on the look of the fluting either.
