With the cooperation of local ISPs you could identify it if it is connected to a public network... Not much else though

If you go to college you can contact the police and they can work with the ISP to track down based on mac. But you may be SOL.

Look for a thief. If you find one, demand your laptop back and see if he has it.

Did the thief also take away your ability to type "anyone"?

Yeah best you can do is get your MAC address and work with local police.

You need to think what programs to had on there which automatically, or are likely to be ran by the thief (if any). what things they interact with and if any of those are likely to help by giving you information.

Does your email client auto login to your accounts for example.

    Think your SOL though. sry.

I know this is too late now for you, but I just saw this on lifehacker and installed the Firefox plugin. Maybe someone else wants it.
