Does it make sense to take creatine and/or beta-alanine during a cut?

Let's assume you're at a 500 calorie deficit every day when all things are considered. That's good for roughly 1lb of fat/water weight loss per week. If you supplement beta-alanine and it allows you to get a few more reps out in everything, every day, which means more calories burned, would you simply lose more fat/water weight?

I don't think the extra 2 calories you burn are going to make much of a difference

Creatine in theory could help with muscle retention while cutting...

Are there any downsides to creatine while cutting e.g. water retention?

you can still gain strength (via CNS optimization) while cutting so the benefits of creatine are still useful while cutting

not to mention its being shown to be beneficial in more just lifting these days so supplementation is good all the time

    Creatine is good while cutting.

Think about it - a calorie-free substance that lets you maintain muscle and work harder... win-win if you ask me!

BCAAs would probably be better for muscle retention during a cut ... better then creatine I would think.

creatine is great during a cut. The only reason I could see NOT taking it is if you were in about to enter a show and needed to shed excess water...other then that stick with it.

I already drink a whey/xtend shake in water during my workout...just wondering if taking creatine would really make that much of a difference in maintaining the gains I've made in the past 6 months or so.

When bulking or maintaining I take creatine if I have it... but it's a "whatever" thing.... Not a big deal.

However, when cutting I make a point to make sure I am taking creatine because I have noticed that it keeps me from getting too flat and helps with muscle retention on a caloric deficit. Nothing mind blowing, but I do notice a difference... especially when carbs are low.
