Does anyone in here work for the FBI?

I'm seriously considering trying to get a job after college with the FBI. I'm majoring in Information Systems and considering a minor in Criminal Justice.

    Anyone have any information?

    Thanks

I talked to a retired FBI guy. Nobody is going to help you get in. Just go on the site and learn all the info. Everything is on the website.

Just looking for some first-hand expeirience thats all. I got another 2 years before I begin applying for even an internship.

I'm just trying to find out if it's anymore difficult to get a job in IT for the FBI than it is at say, Microsoft or Apple (In other words, is it almost impossible?). Do people with prior military experience have a better chance of landing a job at the FBI?

  4. I'm interested in doing something like the FBI not necessarily FBI though. Federal policing type stuff would be pretty interesting.

I read that Richard Nixon applied at the FBI but was rejected. Now there's your competition. Maybe if were to open up economic relations with China you would stand a chance.

Yes because of security clearance. Depends on what clearance you have also. But they look for multicultural people that don't mind leaving family and friends behind. I wanted to apply for the guy who gives the lie detector test. Just reading on the site they told me I need leave my family and freinds and basically not talk to them ever again. If your looking for IT with a college degree but you want to go special investigations. You can try something like OSI in the airforce.

Yeah, I'm looking for IT work. I dont think I would have to worry about leaving family behind to go monitor a server or develop a new system.

I can't find any Job Requirements though, usually when applying to a job an employer will post a list of prerequisites or something similar, there isn't anything like this on FBI's website...as far as I can see.

I'm in the same situation as you.

I think I'm leaning more towards ATF.

So, is there anyone out there that can give me some advice?

Will a criminal justice minor or double major in Criminal Justice/Information Systems look good to the FBI if im looking for IT work?

  15. Yeah I don't have my mind set though. ATF, FBI, maybe even CIA. I think I will join the military first though to give me a better chance hopefully.

    Hrmm..

    Ok, a few things..

Getting hired at the FBI is the EXACT SAME as getting hired at BATF, BICE, TIGTA, IRS-CID, etc.. .

You submit your resume then submit a SF86. If ALL you want to do is IT work then a CJ minor more than likely will not help you. In some regards it may hurt you - because they want an IT guy not a cop.

Now if you want to apply for an 1811 Criminal Investigator position then that IT degree will help you and the CJ minor will help you out also. The FBI has Computer Crimes Investigators...

With that being said, the hardest part of everything is the background check for the security clearance. Plus they do other things like polygraphs....

But it's really all in what you want to do ..

FYI, no matter what job in the FBI you want, you still need to go through their academy.

Good luck. :wavey: Arabic is a great language to learn, of course, but I don't have the time to learn it.

ok, since no one is policing this thread.......
    1) This entirely the wrong forum to ask this. This is teh barracks. No one in here really has any experience other than maybe applying

    2) There are 1811's on OT. Im friends with two of them. They WONT identify themselves on OT or ask your questions.

    3) http://www.911jobforums.com/ They will answer all your questions and shit over there. Some of those people are kinda bitter since they've been in the application pipeline for ATF and FBI, etc. for over a year or two, so be warned. Its not exactly a fast process to get hired. Takes AT LEAST 10 months.
