Id really like to, but things like going to the airport, home depot, grocery store would seem to prevent that.

    I did for a month.....

The key is preparation and internet shopping. And a good backpack.

For me it was totally optional.....just wanted to see how long I could do it. I
had to stop when the thermostat in my R6 started sticking and Yamaha had it
    for a little while.

I think it would be good to mention.......if you ride as your only means of
transportation, keep a ziploc bag in your tail for your phone and wallet.

I got caught in a massive downpour with 40mph winds (and water 4" deep).

It was a combination of terrifying and fun as hell....but my phone was unhappy
    for a few days.

I tried to make it my only means over the summer but I had a few days of foul weather and I broke down because I hate riding in a downpour.

I just moved into Seattle and don't really need my Buick anymore. I'm looking to sell it and make a bike my only means of transportation. The bus takes me virtually eveywhere else that I need to go. Also, I'm not totally helpless. I have my wife's car to help out carrying loads too.

    So, kinda...

I did it for a few months when the car was in the shop.

Didn't mind except in the cold. That really got rough sometimes without proper cold weather gear. Rain sucks too, but my jacket has a zip in nylon liner that kept my wallet dry.

The only thing that really started to suck was I noticed the ergonomics of the bike were causing back pain. Spending long hours in the saddle of a Magna just isn't a comfortable thing for long legged folks. The pegs could be further forward, but the bike really just isn't long enough.
Great bar hopper...I'm gonna miss it.

I could never ride my bike as my only means of Transportation.

1 - My wife would HATE it because she would have to drive her car when we wanted to go some where. She will ride, but only Sunday afternoon style jaunts.

2 - I couldn't haul my ATVs with my bike.

3 - I can't imagine riding one in the snow. I can do rain, although I prefer not to if I'm going some place other then home.

I was seriously considering a similar route not long ago.

I'd still like to as I think it would work well.
The plan was to sell both current car and bike and buy a nice new bike (wasn't sure what)
Then, in a couple months, buy some old, beater ass small pickup truck. You know, some 1987 Nissan 4-cyl with like 190,000 miles on it just for bi-weekly grocery shopping and for when its just too shitty out to ride. I can't really think of when it would be too shitty to ride other than the flash floods we seem to get every year...then again, I'd probably feel better about riding down flooded streets than I would driving down them. :mamoru:

This is kinda my approach. I have the bike for most of my commuting. I still have my civic that is paid off for rainy days and winter. But I ended up buying a cheap S10 to haul my 4wheeler with. I'll have the S10 paid off soon, and will be car payment-less again. I keep looking at new expensive cars, but can't make myself bite on the whole idea of a big monthly payment again. Its just to nice being able to buy my "toys".

    Monthly payments are never fun

I would sell the civic and the motorcycle and buy a better motorcycle, now that you have the S10
