Local gun store has what I believe to be a Century Arms MAS 49 rechambered in .308, I've read that have problems chambering etc. But have also read that some were rechambered in France and not by Century, how do I tell?

The shop is asking $300 for it.

Does it have a Century importer mark on it?

Also, if it has a safety, it is a Century build.

And the Century MAS builds were shit.

Yup has a safety, and has the CAI mark, but under the CAI it said France. I did not know if this meant that it was converted in france and imported by Century, or imported by Century and converted by Century.

    Guess I'll pass.

I think most importers state the caliber/country of origin/their name/location.

Yes, the "France" marking denotes that the arm was manufactured there, not produced. And only 250 Mas 49/56's were converted to 7.62 in France, so they are very very rare here.

This is a French conversion, notice that the forward sling swivel band just touches the forward cooling slot in the wood. Sorry it's hard to see but it's my only picture.
