So I'm in Florida and I am most likely doing the classroom part of my requirements for my CWP next weekend.

Basically I am still deciding on what hand gun I want to get to carry. One of the guns in the running is a full size 1911, mostly because I could possibly get it for free and more for sentimental reasons it belonged to my grandfather (someone once said guns are like jewelry for men.) Before I went and made that decision I wanted to get the opinion of people who carry a 1911 on the idea and possibly a recommendation or 2 for a holster, preferably IWB, leather, and adjustable angel.

Other guns that have been recommended to me are a 357 magnum and the glock 23 or 30, but on the glocks I can't get all 3 fingers on the grip, at least not without a magazine extender.

I did while my Steyr was getting nightsights. Might still be carrying it if I had put the ambi safety on. I loved that little shit. :o

Holster preference is going to be based on several things.

comfort first, after all it doesn't do you any good if it's too uncomfortable to wear

concealment second, it's not as hard as you think to conceal large frame automatics with proper wardrobe and coloring.

durability third, it had better last, as most of the good ones are fucking expensive.

That said, the only thing to do is try a lot and see which work for you.

My brother carried his Kimber before he got a hk p2000. Just carried it IWB at about 4 o'clock. Never had a problem concealing it.

The 1911 is super thin compared to G19

I regularly carry my 1911 as well. A solid holster is a must with a heavier gun. I use a HBE Com2 holster, similar design to a Milt Sparks VM2.

A solid holster? Definitely, but it's gunbelt first with the heavier shit, IMO.

I also found the takedown lever and the safety would dig into my side in an IWB. I much prefer the smoothsided Steyr IWB.

I carry a 5" 1911 IWB in a Milt Sparks executive companion at about 4 o'clock. It is carried at 15 degree forward cant "FBI cant" but is not adjustable, I can't think of any adjustable leather holsters. If you must have an adjustable cant you should look into a Comp Tac CTAC, it is kydex but is an excellent IWB holster.

I don't have my ccw yet (lazy) but when I am out in my garage or something, I carry my 1911, they are neat because you have a full size pistol but it is slim.

1911 or browning Hi-power would be my 1st choices for CCW. I would also consider something like a colt detective special (.38spl)

I wouldn't be applying for say another week week and a half and even with electronic finger prints it still takes 2-4 weeks to get the permit so I wouldn't need a holster for 3-6 weeks.

    Thanks for the link though.

Order it now, then. Waiting for leather SUCKS. Expect the best leathercrafters to have a lead time of 6 months and up.

I've had an order in with my favorite holster maker since feb....just so you know what sort of wait you can be talking about ;) Its not like walmart, they aren't made in bulk and kept in a warehouse.

Every micro 1911 I've shot has been a complete piece of shit in terms of reliability. The smallest I'd carry would be a commander size, even then some are still iffy out of the box.

Ya, a good belt makes a huge difference. As to the digging, try a holster with a sweat shield. Makes it much more comfortable.

BTW, nice choices I have all 3. But can't get used to the Hi Power trigger and the DS is pretty heavy. So it only sees only occational ankle duty.
