    Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro

I'm looking for a decent mid range zoom w/o spending a fortune I was leaning towards the tamron 17-50 but this looks comparable and I get a little more zoom out of it now I'm torn :noes: I plan to eventually purchase a 10-20 and 70-200 so I wanted something in between for $400-450

I'm looking for a halfway decent midrange lens to fill in that exact same gap myself, I don't shoot midrange too often so I'm not too concerned about the quality, I just want something better then the kit lens and more flexible then the 50 1.8

I've pretty much come to the 24-85 F/3.5-4.5, I know it's not the best lens in the world, but for the price I think it will be tolerable, and it can't possibly be worse then the kit lens, the review wasn't too terrible http://the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-24-85mm-f-3.5-4.5-USM-Lens-Review.aspx

you have a little bit more budget to work with though so I would say go with the tamron 28-75 F/2.8

I want the tamron too, I just don't shoot enough midrange stuff to justify it :hs:

I have that Sigma for my D50. Compared to the kit 28-80 it is better in every way. I wish it were 2.8 on the long end. Build quality is pretty decent, a little bit of zoom creep. Distorts on the wide end but at 22mm and on or so it's barely noticeable. Contrast and sharpness is pretty good. Overall for the price I've been quite happy with it.

Hmm its still a toss up I'm not sure if I went with the tamron 17-50 if I would miss the 50-70mm range when I get a 70-200 :dunno:
