I'm looking for an affordable project to build. I'm a novice as far as motors go, but I can do my own interior/exterior work. Are older engines harder to work on? If anyone has a Monte Carlo, please post and let me know what you think of it. Or suggest a better older muscle car to work on/learn. I want a 240Z, Monte Carlo, or 60's Mustang coupe to fiddle with and learn on. Comments?

never seen it, but i looked it up, and yes. wiki says there's one in the fast and the furious 3. i looked that one up and it had an insane engine. also, ace ventura drives one haha. What are the factors you are talking about? I'd give it basic mods, but would really like a driveable cruiser rather than a horsepower fiend.

floor pans tend to rust out, be sure to crawl under and inspect those

inspect everything, every piece of undercarriage and so on

theres no such thing as a numbers matching block either as i dont believe ford stamped their blocks back then

for a basic 289 i would upgrade the ignition system, carb, exhaust system, intake manifold and shifter

here are good places for parts:

    www.mustangsplus.com
    www.calmustang.com
    www.themustangdepot.com
    www.summitracing.com

those sites should give you an idea of what to expect on restoration costs

and if you want to insulate the vehicle:

Not actually looking to restore an entire vehicle to original. Kind of want a reliable beat older car. I like that style. Depending on the car, maybe loud, with a bit of grunt, and a touch of style. I've seen some slightly modified 60's stangs that look great.

older engines are 100% EASIER to work on than new ones.. no fuel injection, no emissions shit, no wires everywhere, no computers

all you got is the engine, the distrib, the carb, and the throttle cable

oh, i forgot, my camaro does have emissions stuff, a hose going from the valve cover to the carb, so fucking high tech right there

There's a '74 (I think?) in a mall parking lot here for 3.5k. It's not too hot of shape, but runs ...

One of my buddies just got a '77 Nova, and it's pretty fun ride.
