Does anyone else here jerk?

    The other day I jerked 340lbs (a PR by 15lbs) after not doing more than 198lbs x 5 just once a week all summer. I did last week though do a full jerk work out that ended up at 308lbs x 1. We had a conditioning test after the work out so I didn't try to go any higher but I felt like I could.


    So my question is, is jerk just one of those lifts that other lifts help you with it? Would a lot of PC and squat attribute to it? (i.e. dip and explode)

    most of the time when I max I dont split but when I am just working out I split

    oly lifter so yes almost everyday. The jerk is going to do a lot for you, besides just building explosiveness. First, it is going to put a tremendous load on your core as you stabilize the weight over head, but this will only happen if you hold the lift for 1 or 2 actual seconds.

    You should be doing split when you reach maximum weights, it is going to allow you to get under the weight a lot faster and enabling you to do more weight. Push jerk (basically a modified push press) will only take you so far, unless you start doing Chinese style jerks... which are goddamn crazy (think doing a push jerk, except when you receive the weight, you are in front squat position...).

    Squats. Your legs are the primary force of locomotion for the lift. When I started lifting again after a months of shoulder rehab, I could barely press say 105 pounds for 5 reps, but I could jerk 220 pounds with little body quiver.

    Actually it does ever seen someone jerk for the first time? The entire body quivers. Fast forward a couple months torso quivering is gone. Dumbass.
