better off finding out WHY it's showing and address that instead of just resetting the light.
I know what it is, but it's gonna cost 600 bucks to fix it (some fan issue but not gonna hurt the car) and I just have to get it reset to get emissions done.
go to autozone....rent OBDII code reader. Go to parking lot...plug in to socket (within 3 feet of drivers steering wheel, usually under by the pedals). Reset codes using code reader. Return for full deposit refund.
dunno about autozone but Shucks will no longer take returns on OBD scanners because people were returning em.
But if they rent 'em that shouldn't be too costly should it?
I always just undo my battery cables..Resets for me on my car..Autozone does Check Engine light checks/resets for free now..Or atleast in Florida they do
unplug batt cable for 10 minutes
Right before you get to the emissions inspection station, pull over, shut off your truck and unhook the battery and hit the brakes, then proceed to the emissions. the code wont pop back up until probably another 7 miles or so.
my understanding is that I&M will fail by doing that... Because it won't have the bad codes, but it will not have the good codes, either. They'll basically know you just reset it.
no autozone does free checks...but they don't erase them...but they do rent them out. Just go there and erase.
I did it as recently as 4 months ago...have they stopped since then ?? I know checker doesn't anymore.
Worth a shot....better than spending 600 bucks I don't have.
The Autozones around here do checks for free, just offer the guy a $20 to clear them while he's at it. Seriously, 9/10 of parts store workers are $7/hr kids who don't know jack about cars, nor care why you want it cleared
the ones out here got sued because they were taking away diagnostic business from the mechanic's shops... now they dont do it anymore.
Man, why didn't they just sue because they're providing parts to do repairs also?
because plugging shit in to tell people the problem was easy money, you act like they want to do work.
By the way, unplugging the battery worked (as far as it went)....now I have to drive it around for 80-100 miles for i to pass inspection.
Fucking hell, it's almost worth it to get it re-insured in Florida just cuz they don't do the emissions bullshit....
Insert bomb, wait for boom.
