i saw a spine specialist today in regards to my back and asked him about stretching the lower back, he confirmed that it wasn't a good idea. he said it goes against conventional wisdom, but the less flexible people are as they grow older, the lower the risk of injury. he went on to make fun of yoga people, especially instructors, for being his most fucked up patients.

he told me to stick with cardio and dynamic stretching for warm ups.

    ceaze called it :o

dude, just do some regular swimming, it maybe freestyle or classic ( i prefer freestyle), it's good for your back , for all your body...

besides if you will be doing about 3 km of swimming per day, u'll be full of endorphines ( they are better than cocaine)

a lot of pretty well known sports physio's and spine specialists are heavily agaisnt things like yoga, citing it as being dangerous and counter productive to health in a lot of ways, at least of the low back

this is just common sense, the lower back is meant to stabilize not be flexible

I foam roll it sometimes for postural reasons (it's so tight sometimes that I have a strong lordosis no matter what) but I wouldn't static stretch it or anything.

I do that too... then do some mobility stuff for thoracic and band face pulls & overhead shrugs for scapular stability.

The only reason I haven't improved is cause I never stay regular. I fucking suck.

also you never answered my whiskey question from the insect thread. :nono:

What's that have to do with the topic? You don't do dynamic stretching for the low back either.
