GUN Do you think they should allow ccw and open carry on planes?

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Jimmy Jockstrap, Aug 6, 2007.

  1. IMO the good will outweigh the bad and shoot the bad guys.

Bad guys will always be able to bring guns onto planes so why should law abiding citizens.

Or a plane is such a narrow field of space it is easier to regulate the guns compared to say the guns coming into and out of america from a million directions.

what about small planes where there is less technology available to scan passengers?

I dunno, just doesn't seem like a good idea. Too many chances for shit to go bad. I think having the Air Marshals is probably good. The LAST thing gun owners need is a shootout in the sky where a bunch of innocent passengers got shot by a guy packing.

Better keep guns out of any crowded area then.

EH, I don't think it'd cause any massive decompression, though. They tried it on Mythbusters (I know, I know) and a small hole just wouldn't cause a massive decompression.

No, because in most crowded areas there is the chance for the crowd to disperse in a situation. In a plane, there is nowhere to go, but people would still try. The likelyhood of getting a good shot is pretty small, imo.

i bet if a bullet went through a window or two (considering if a lot of people were carrying and firing at a target) you would have some serious problems.

Would I like to carry? Sure. But I don't want 75% of the people with CHL's to carry on my plane.

Why not give LEO's either free or very cheap airfare, if they agree to fly sober and armed?

A few holes would do nothing for overall pressurization; neither would losing one window, although something that size would make it harder for the equipment to keep up and in either case the pilot would have to descend / land in short order. Worst-case scenario would be if a hole were in an especially unlucky shot that caused some sort of structural failure.

All that said, I don't want people packing on an airliner. In a small private plane that's a different matter I suppose, and dependant upon whether someone is going frome one CC-legal area to another. If they're just out flying around the patch why not leave it in the car? :dunno:

I am still 100% certain that an American airplane will never be hijacked again after 9-11. The crew and passengers will fight back.

It changed the way people understand hijacking. Prior to 9-11 hijacker would actually land the planes.

Stop, you're hurting my feelings.... Looking back, sure it'd be great if we could all carry, but I KNOW that's never going to happen. I'm also divided on handing out CHL's....legally I'm glad lots of states are shall issue, but then there are lots of morons around compensating for being bitches.

Hell, while I'm ranting, most of the people on internet boards piss me off, they carry guns, but have NO clue how to "survive." Training teaches this, how many people have actually gone thru a force on force scenario? Things happend FAST, you can say you're gonna do something everytime, and from the other side I'll see someone do it 5 different ways, none being the initial plan.

ya no...dont think i want a plane full of armed passengers shooting at each other, and i love guns and wished i lived in a state where CCW was easier to get. Thats a tad on the sensationalist side, but still, seems like a pretty bad idea.

Flying the patch? :hsugh: Pattern, maybe.

You may cause a particular system failure, but on a commercial passenger jet, you're NOT going to cause structural failure from a shot.
