do you think my mini will boot without the internal HDD installed?

My mini (PPC) is fubar, I have a "bootable backup" but i cant get the computer to do more than go to a firmware prompt (and then be unresponsive). I can hear the hard drive making a clunking noise that I can tell means "broke". And i get the question-mark folder.
Im hoping that if the hard drive is unattached, I can boot from the firewire drive.

well, I was going to say yes, just choose another bootable device (ie: network boot, cdrom boot, firewire HD boot)

One of the best upgrades you can do to a PPC Mini. Mine was the 1.42GHz, 2Gigs and a 7200rpm drive and it was actually pretty damn quick.
